THE AMAZING FANTASY RACE!
Episode 2 (Part 2)
*Italics: Confession
Phil: This is Kuwait City. A population of only 900,000, this world-class, state-of-the-art business hub was once invaded by the Iraqi troops in 1993 and was renamed Saddam City in honour of the Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein. Once war-torn, skyscrapers now lift off the ground and reach upwards, signalling a era of growth for Kuwait City. At the northern edge of the city, the Sheikh Subah Al-Ahmed Nature Reserve.
This was the first pit-stop in the race around the world.
Teams arrived here at the end of the previous leg for a mandatory rest peirod of 12 hours. Engaging in a popular Kuwaiti activity, teams camped overnight in the desert, where they can either eat, sleep or mingle with the other teams.
Will Maria and Cecilia be able to maintain their lead and finish strong on the next leg of race? Will Peter's autocracy on Hui Min lead them to elimination?
**********************************************************************
Maria and Cecilia, who arrived first at 11:47AM, will depart at 11:47PM.
Maria (rips off an envelope): Drive yourself to Abu Dhabi.
Phil: Teams must now drive themselves across the Arabian Desrt for more than 550 miles to Abu Dhabi, the capital of United Arab Emirates. Once there, teams must make their way to the Al-Hosn Palace, known as the Old Fort or the White Fort. Built in the late 19th century, the palace was the residence of the erstwhile ruling family. Teams must then search the grounds of the palace to find their next clue.
Maria: All right, let's go.
Maria: Being able to finish first in the first leg of the race really gave us a boost of confidence. We are now even sure of yourself being able to beat all odds to win this thing.
Cecilia: After yesterday's performance, I am sure many other teams are shocked, especially those who underestimated us. We are one strong team, and we will continue to be strong.
Cecilia: I'll ask this man for direction... Hi sir, do you know how to get to Abu Dhabi?
Man: This way...
Cecilia: How far is it?
Man: More than 500 miles. It will take about 8 hours..
Maria: 8 hours? Wow, I've never driven for so long before. The longest I had ever driven was 1 hour continuously.
(Kadir and Anwar: 2nd place, 11:49 PM)
Kadir: Drive yourself to Abu Dhabi... You have $400 for this leg of the race.
Kadir: We finished second yesterday. But I am not happy. We could have finished first. And I hope we can finish first for this leg of the race.
Anwar: This race is constantly challenging us. Be it map-reading or eating brain sandwich. We are constantly being presented with many different obstacles. I hope that this race can be a form of inspiration to our students to strive for excellence and to beat all odds not matter what to reach their target.
Anwar: It's going to be a long ride....
(Vijay and Siti: 3rd place, 12:01 AM)
Siti: Abu Dhabi!
Vijay: Where the heck is this place?
Siti: U.A.E. It's a shopping paradise!
Vijay; Yeah, but we ain't here to shop..
Siti: Shut up, Vijay. Let me fantasise for a minute, couldn't you?
Vijay: This race is not just about winning the one million dollars. It's about learning and discovering new things, like the another culture, another language, see more sights, hear more sounds. It's the experience that matters.
Siti: This race is definitely great for Vijay. Being enclosed like a hamster within the boundaries of Singapore, he can sometimes get very narrow-minded and his perspectives are not broad enough. He needs to get out of his comfort zone and learn to appreciate what the world has to offer.
Vijay: Do you know how are we going to get there?
Siti: Yup, just stay along this road... we should be fine.
(Kelvin and Darren: 4th place, 12:21 AM)
Darren: This is race is far too important for us. Our lives literally depend on it. We must win and can only win. I can't accept any other outcomes.
Kelvin: We are doing a great job. I think that none other teams in this race are as motivated and determined as us to win this thing. We have a driving force behind us, and this force is not going to stop so quickly.
Kelvin: Hi sir, do you know how to get to Abu Dhabi? (some directions were given...) Thanks!
Darren: We are doing great, aren't we?
(Wee Kiat and Wee Toon: 5th place, 12:33 AM)
Wee Toon: Abu Dhabi...
Wee Kiat: Dubai, you mean?
Wee Toon: No, Abu Dhabi.
Wee Kiat: Don't be an ass, I've never heard of Abu Dhabi before.
Wee Toon: Speak for yourself, asshole. It's written down here on the clue.
Wee Kiat: Oh.
Wee Toon: Now, who's the asshole?
(Lay Kon and Bee Zhu: 6th place, 12:40 AM)
Lay Kon: Drive yourself to Abu Dhabi.
Bee Zhu: I think we should fill up our tanks first and I can ask the attendant in the station for directions...
Lay Kon: Okay..
(Farida and Kim: 7th place, 1:06 AM)
Kim: Drive yourself to Abu Dhabi..
Farida: Okay, I think we have to get on this road.... and it certainly looks like a long way...
Kim: I wonder what would happen to us when we bring along our kids?
Farida: Oh no! They would probably whine... "Mum! I need to use the loo!", "Mum! are we there yet?" Hahahahahaha
Kim: Hahahahhaha, mums rock!
Farida: Yeah!
(Chu Kang and Rosie, 8th place 1:07 AM)
Chu Kang: This race ah, so far so good lah! Hehahaheeha.. Cause we are not e-li-mi-na-ted mah... If we go liao, then of course no good lah!
Rosie: I never imagine the race to be so dangerous leh. Go Middle East, then must eat what. brain.. what.. brain sandwich ah? So disgusting.... Aiyoh.. lucky we didn't eat.. but hor, we also lose a lot of time leh.. I think next time we must be more daring, only then we can become number one!
Chu Kang: Abu...Dee. Ha... Bi...
Rosie: where is this place ah?
Chu Kang: Dunnoe leh.. ask people lah..
Rosie: No people around leh... Ah! I know, we go petrol station!
Chu Kang: Ah... so clever!
(*At petrol station)
Bee Zhu: Hi, do you know how to get to Abu Dhabi? ..... uh-huh...
Lay Kon: That's another team...
Farida: Oh, that's the teachers in the petrol station.. Should we stop and fill our tanks as well? We could also ask directions..
Kim: Nah, we are doing just fine... don't get distracted..
Bee Zhu (to attendant in petrol station): Okay.. thank you very much!
Lay Kon: One team just passed us...
Bee Zhu: Oh look! Here's PCK...
Rosie: Eh, the teachers ah?
Chu Kang: Yah, we catch up with them liao!
Rosie: OK, Chu. I got directions liao..
Chu Kang: Good.
(Dennis and Stephanie, 9th place 1:24 AM)
Stephanie: Abu Dhabi...
Stephanie: Being on this race allows Dennis and I to build up our relationship. We get to know each other even better. And day by day, we get to know a little more about each other and day by day our relationship strengthens.
Dennis: Steph and I are working with each other well. We are making up for what we have missed in the past. And I think if at the end of the day, we can get back together, I wouldn't mind if we didn't win. Being able to get back together is what I really want from this race.
Dennis: All right, we have a long journey ahead.. It's still anybody's game
(Peter and Hui Min, Last place 1:25 AM)
Peter: We are going to Abu Dhabi..
Peter: I was disappointed. We were nearly eliminated... all because of Hui Min. I am very disappointed with her perfomance yesterday. She could have definitely done better. It's just cow's brains, something that the Kuwaitis eat. It's not inedible. It's mind over matter!
Hui Min: The brain yesterday had certainly taken its toll on me. I was so freaked out. Till now, I still marvel at how I had managed to finish the entire disgusting sandwich. I had come to realise that to win this race is not an easy thing. You need to be physically fit and mentally strong as well. It's not easy.. But no matter how tough this is, I have to endure.. I have to, and I must.
*********************************************************************
Maria: There's a fork road ahead, which way should we go?
Cecilia: We'll take the left..
Maria: Okay..
Anwar: Which way do we go now?
Kadir: Take the right...
Vijay: Now, what do we do?
Siti: The left..I think
Vijay: YOU think?
Siti: Hey, I travel more than you do...
Vijay: Fine, you win.
Siti: Thank you. Good game!
Peter: Where are we going now?
Hui Min: Boss, turn to the right... The right is a faster road...
Anwar: Oh man, I am starting to get worried.. I see nothing but empty land
Kadir: We are in a desert, my friend..
Anwar: I mean.. there is no more signs indicating that we are on the right way...
Rosie: Chu.. are we on the correct way not?
Chu Kang: I don't know, you say one mah...
Dennis: Which way now?
Stephanie: Right..
Lay Kon: Bee Zhu, what did the attendant say?
Bee Zhu: Take a left...
Anwar: I don't feel safe... Here's a petrol station. I am going to ask..
Kadir: What for? You are just wasting time..
Anwar: No, I just don't feel right.. (*to attendant)Hi, may I know how do we get to Abu Dhabi?
Attendant: No, not this way. You must go back to the fork road and take this way....
Anwar: Okay, thank you. Oh man! We have made a wrong turn! We have to get back to that fork road...
Kadir: Sheesh...sorry
Anwar: Forget it, all we need to do now is go back and do some catching up! And hopefully we can see some teams along the way in an opposite direction!
Dennis: Steph, are you sure this is the correct way?
Stephanie: Yeah, that's what the map says.
Dennis: It doesn't seem to be the way. There's no longer signs telling us that we are going to Abu Dhabi.
Stephanie: Yeah, trust me..
Dennis: All right..
Peter: Hui Min, you sure this is the right way?
Hui Min: Eh... I think so..
Peter: What you think so? So you are not confident?
Hui Min: ...... we can ask somebody...
Peter: There are no more signs telling us that we are heading the correct way! WHERE ARE WE GOING?!?!
Hui Min: But from the map, it seems that this way is the shortest possible route to Abu Dhabi..
Peter: God damn it! Give me the damn map! (looks at the map)NO!!! This is not the correct way! Damn! Can't you read a map the correct way? Now we've gotta turn back.. And look! It's this way (points)!!
Hui Min: Sorry!
Peter: Useless thrash!
Wee Toon: Where are we now?
Wee Kiat: In the middle of a desert?
Wee Toon: Which desert?
Wee Kiat: Al-Qaeda Desert?
Wee Toon: Wow, the desert is so ugly, isn't it? It's barren and derelict..
Wee Kiat: Yeah, I expect some cactus here and there..
Wee Toon: That's Mexico, idiot!
Wee Kiat: Ooh, here's a sign saying "To Abu Dhabi"..
Wee Toon: Great!
Kelvin: I think we need to fill up our tanks.. it's at a dangerously low level..
Darren: Okay... I'll get directions..
(Kelvin and Darren pulls over at a petrol station)
Farida: Ooh, that's the bankrupt entrepreneurs..
Kim: Yeah...
Chu Kang: Yay! We pass another team!
Rosie: Zzzzzz...
Chu Kang: OEI! ROSIE! WAKE UP LAH!
Rosie: Huh?! Huh?! What happen?
Chu Kang: Don't sleep lah.. help me look out for directions!
Rosie: Orh..
Dennis: We are getting nowhere...
Stephanie: What do you suggest then?
Dennis: Find another way! We are so lost here!
Stephanie: Where do you want to go? We've been north, we've been south, we've been east, we've been west, where else do you want to go?!?!? If you think you are so good, you can read the damn map! (*throws map at Dennis and started crying)
Dennis: I don't know.. I guess i just have to continue on until I can find someone... I'm sorry...Steph, I'm sorry..
Stephanie: Just leave me alone...
Maria: What does it say, Cecilia?
Cecilia: Abu Dhabi, 100 miles ahead...
Maria: Eee-hah! We've made it!
Dennis: Oh, here's a petrol station, we can stop by and ask. Excuse me, do you know how to get to Abu Dhabi?
Attendant: It's two hours, on the other way...
Dennis Uh-oh.... thanks!
Stephanie: What did he say?
Dennis: Two hours back where we came from...
Stephanie: We are so screwed!

Episode 1
Phil:
I am standing on the Padang field, a playing ground for the members of the Singapore Cricket Club, the venue of Singapore's first National Day Parade, and also the home to many 14th century artifacts discovered during an archaeological investigation in 1993. 11 teams of two, each with a pre-existing relationship, are being transported to the Padang by limousine taxis, and this is where their race of a lifetime around the world, begins.

The first taxi brings in Peter and Hui Min, boss and secretary.
Peter:
We make a great team. I am the boss, hui Min's the secretary. I command and instruct, she obeys and proceed on performing the instruction. There will not be any arguements so we can focus on winning the race.
Hui Min:
What else can I do? He dragged me along and I HAD to obey him because the fate of my career lies at his hands. Whatever the case is, I think that I just have to give in a little, take orders from him without questioning or doubting him, I am sure we will not have to quarell as much as any teams. I'll just leave all the "thinking" and "strategising" jobs to him and do what he says. If we were eliminated, it would his fault and not mine, at all.
Phil:
The second team consists of Kelvin and darren, both of them are bankrupt entrepreneurs.
Kelvin:
We need the money so badly. No other teams in this race are as desperate to win this as we do. Due to our financial status, we already have this slight advantage over the other teams because we are more motivated to strive harder to avoid the eliminations and we will give our very best and put in more effort than the rest of the teams to reach the finishing line first. No other teams can beat us in terms of our determination, and so the rest of the teams should watch out!
Darren:
Kelvin and I make a perfect team. We were beside each other when we are at our lowest spirits. We pulled through together and I am confident that nothing in this race can be more challenging than what we had went through during our financial crisis. I am sure both of us can do this together and win the million dollars.
Phil:
Vijay and Siti, currently dating.
Vijay:
Siti and I have been dating for three years already. We had done lots of crazy stuff together like scuba-diving, bungee jumping, but we had seldom travelled. In fact, i haven't travelled out of the boundaries of Singapore and Malaysia yet. I had heard tales of other countries from Siti, the sights, the sounds and the smells. And i think that this race is a good opportunity for me to really understand what Siti's trying to say and to understand why she would love her job of being an air-stewardess so much. I mean, it is her job that prevents us from meeting too often and many a times I had failed to convince her to switch jobs. Now, it's her time to convince me to accept her job.
Siti:
A picture is worth a thousand words. I'm glad that there is this chance for me to introduce to Vijay my world of life and experiences. I hope to convince him how much I really love my job and that I also hope to travel with my loved one to make up all the time that i could not meet up with him when I am out for an assignment.
Phil:
Chu Kang and Rosie, husband and wife, a Singapore's local icon.
Chu Kang:
Aiyah, that time I was only the man giving out clues. Not fun lah... I want to race. Look at how easythe race is, just run here run there, and you can win one million dollars! Chicken feat lah. i am the best contractor in Singapore and JB, so what's so difficult about this race? Don't play play.. hahahahaha...
Rosie:
I am sure we can win the money. Chu had been on the race before and I am sure he knows how to strategise and play the game. And hor, he's such a big fan of the show leh, every episode also watch, and watch three times some more. So, I am sure we can win lah!
Phil:
Wee Kiat and Wee Toon, twins and professional gymnasts
Wee Kiat:
It's not the end results that matters for Wee Toon and me. It's more of the process of the race, the experience that we had on this race. We would want to seize this chance to challenge ourselves to see how much we can do that we would have never expected ourselves to do.
Wee Toon:
We want to make this a chance for us to reflect on ourselves, to seem what are some of our flaws so that we can correct them to further enhance our career as a gymnast.
Phil:
Farida and Kim, neighbours and best friends.
Farida:
People may underestimate us because we are not as physically fit as them or that we are an all-women team, but hey! I've gone through the birth process thrice and raised three kids. What else can I not be able to do? So the bottom line is, we'll kick butt!
Kim:
Being a mum definitely will give us an advantage in this race. Bringing up a child isn't easy. We have overcome all odds to do so and raising a child can train your ability to communicate with others, and I am sure our ability to communicate and our experince of being a parent bring us far in this race. I mean, we have raised kids! What's so difficult about the race?
Phil:
The next team consists of Jupiter and Venus, siblings.
Jupiter:
This is something that I had always wanted to do and I can't believe I am now actually part of this race!
Venus:
We will make a great team. I have not accompanied my brother in any leisure activites and I think that as the saying goes, "absence makes the heart goes fonder". We will certainly work well with each other and advance to victory!
Phil:
Maria and Cecilia, Filipino maids working in Singapore.
Maria:
I know people will look down on us and think we will not win this race. They probably think that Filipinos, especially those domestic workers, are backward and outdated and probably know nothing about racing, or even know nothing about the world. But we shall prove them wrong!
Cecilia:
People think that we only cooped up ourselves within the four walls of the flat and slogged day in and day out ding household chores. But what they fail to realise is our ability to do beyond what they think of us. Almost all Filipinos are fans of the show. We'll watch it religiously and we would certainly shock everyone in this race with what we can achieve.
Phil:
Kadir and Anwar, a team of silat coaches.
Kadir:
The purpose of joining this race is not for the money. Rather, it's to show to my students how much their teacher can achieve. We have what it takes to be their teacher, and we hope that through this race, we can be their source of inspiration for them to work and train harder.
Anwar:
Being on this race itself is just amazing. The money doesn't matter to us. But what we really want is to take the experience along with us when the race is over and to share it with our family, friends and students.
Phil:
Dennis and Stephanie, a separated couple.
Dennis:
Steph and I broke up a few months ago. I know the breakup has caused as much hurt and distraught to her as to me. I know that I still love her and she still loves me. I did dream of marrying her and I really hope that the dream can become reality one day. But first, I think that this is the perfect time for us to get to know each other better. I mean, we truly love each other, but I think that loving each other doesn't mean that both of you are compatible. I think that it is through this race that we can find out whether we are meant for each other and whether the breakup is a right decision to make.
Stephanie:
I need to recharge myself. I have spent some much of my time and effort on work and have neglected Dennis. I have to admit that i may be the reason why this relationship couldn't work out well. I hope to see how we can salvage the situation because i know I still love him.
Phil:
The last team consists of Lay Kon and Bee Zhu, both are chemistry teachers.
Lay Kon:
A change in environment is what I need. For the past 25 years, I have seldom got the time top travel as I wished. i have wasted all my youth on teaching. Now that I am in my 50's, I hope to see the world before my body start to "rebel".
Bee Zhu:
Lay Kon is a very lonely. Her only wish is to travel around the world but for the past quarter of a century, she was tied up with work. Now that she has the chance, I do not wish ti disappoint her by not accompanying her. I couldn't bear todo that.
Phil:
Can the teams hold up under the stress of traveling over 50,000 miles? Will the competing teams become friends or enemies? And who will come up with the right strategy -- the right combination of brains, brawn and teamwork, to win the one million dollars? It’s time to begin The Amazing Fantasy Race.
Phil (to the teams):
In just a few minutes you’ll be leaving on a race around the world. There are 12 legs in this race and as you travel, you’ll have to complete various tasks. At the beginning of each leg, you’ll receive a small amount of cash that will have to cover all your expenses, except for airline tickets, which you will not need to pay for. At the end of each leg, there is a Pit Stop. 8 of these Pit Stops are elimination points. You’ll need to get to them as fast as you can, because if you’re last, you’ll be eliminated.
Your first clue is waiting for you on top of the luggage you brought with you. All your luggage are now placed in front of the City Hall. When I give you the word, you can cross the road, climb up the steps to retrieve your baggage and read the clue. What you do after that is completely up to you.

The first team to cross the finish line at the end of thirteen legs will win one million dollars. Are you ready to get started?
All the teams:
Yes!! Woo-hoo!! *clap and cheer
Phil:
The world is waiting for you. Good luck! Travel safe....
(All the teams are raring to disperse*)
Phil:
GO!!!
All the teams dashed across the road in front of the City hall, climbed up a flight of steps to their luggage.
Jupiter (tears open the envelope): Make your way to the National Library..
Maria: and search the entire building for departure times...
Siti: Once you have found a departure time that you desired, bring it to the marked travel agent located across the library to exchange for your air tickets...
Kelvin: Tickets are available on a first come, first serve basis.
Darren: Okay,Kelvin, let's go!!
Rosie: Chu, hurry up! We have to search for tickets.
Chu Kang: How do we go there? Do we run there?
Rosie: Run there faster. Here very hard to find taxis.
Hui Min: Boss, what to do now?
Peter: Follow the rest....
THE AMAZING FANTASY RACE....
